If you are planning a getaway to this Andalusian province in 2025, don’t miss this guide to the most important celebrations that combine tradition, gastronomy, music and local culture. Here they are in chronological order.
Valentine’s Day in the province of Cadiz
Although Valentine’s Day is celebrated everywhere, in the province of Cádiz it is special. You can combine the celebration of love with your partner with other leisure activities to complete a great date. What’s more, you’re in luck with the special promotions offered by some of our hotels. Lovers of beach destinations can take advantage of the promotion at Hotel Duque de Nájera, while urbanites can take advantage of the one at Hotel Jerez & Spa.
Cadiz Carnival
Declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest, the Carnival of Cádiz is one of the most eagerly awaited events year after year. In 2025 it is held from 27 February to 9 March. During these days, the streets of the old town are filled with comparsas, chirigotas and choirs that mix humour and social criticism. Here you can find out about the programme of street activities, which begin on 26 January with the Erizada, and continue with the street chirigotas, the cavalcade and the burial of the mackerel, which brings the festivities to an end. And of course, always with an eye on the official contest of groupings that takes place in the Gran Teatro Falla.
Easter Week
Easter Week in the province of Cadiz has something for everyone. If you like seclusion and traditional processions, you can find them in all the towns in the province from Palm Sunday onwards, with special mention of Easter Week in Jerez, declared to be of International Tourist Interest. In Jerez, religious fervour, the procession of the traditional pasos with hundreds of years of history, and the flamenco touch of the saetas, sung in an improvised way, all come together. If you prefer other plans, Jerez offers a multitude of proposals to enjoy good wine, flamenco and its rich historical heritage. And with the beach just 15 minutes away by car, you can start enjoying the good spring weather by the sea.
Jerez Horse Fair 2025
We are staying in Jerez because, shortly after the end of Easter Week, the city is getting ready to enjoy another of the highlights of the calendar of events in the province of Cadiz. From 17 to 24 May, the city dresses up for the Feria del Caballo (Horse Fair), which is held in the González Hontoria Park. The stalls, open to the general public, will welcome you with their music (sevillanas and flamenco) and typical gastronomy (fried peppers, prawns, omelette, serranitos, ham…). And on the promenades, the joy and colours of the flamenco dresses, the elegance of the horse-drawn carriages… a unique and stately fair not to be missed.
The month of May is the starting signal for the calendar of fairs that flood all the towns in the province of Cadiz until the end of September. You can consult the full calendar here; we recommend the Spring Fair held from 1 to 5 May in Rota, with a wide range of activities to suit all tastes.
Gastronomic events in the province of Cadiz 2025
In a province with such a rich and varied gastronomy, the calendar of events is extensive. Among them all, we would highlight the following:
– The Andalusian Artisan Cheese Fair in Villaluenga del Rosario, a place where you can taste the many varieties of local cheeses of the province, in the heart of the Sierra de Cádiz. This year it will be held from 4 to 6 April.
– Tuna Routes in the region of La Janda. Between May and June, at the height of the tuna fishing season, towns such as Conil and Barbate hold gastronomic events to celebrate this delicacy typical of the province of Cadiz.
– Urta Festival in Rota. From 1 to 4 August, with tastings of this local fish, which is another incentive to visit the town during the summer.
– Sherry Harvest Festival in Jerez. Although wine is celebrated and enjoyed all year round in Jerez, the harvest festivities take place from the end of August to mid-September. With activities revolving around the internationally famous sherry wines, this is a date not to be missed.
– Tosantos and autumn gastronomic days: Tradition dictates that the festival of Tosantos should be celebrated on 31 October with its special gastronomic proposals. Throughout the year, many towns and villages also hold fairs and special routes based on their star local products: mushrooms, chestnuts, zurrapa de lomo (pork loin zurrapa)
Music events in the province of Cádiz
Especially in summer, the province is full of music festivals for all tastes. Two stand out for their wide recognition: on the one hand, the Tío Pepe Festival, which fills the González Byass wineries in Jerez with activities and concerts from mid-July to mid-August. On the other hand, the Concert Music Festival, which fills the town of Sancti Petri in Chiclana with music during the month of July. Another recommended festival is the No Sin Música in the city of Cádiz.
In November and December, zambombas in Jerez.
And in the last part of the year, don’t miss the zambombas of Jerez. From mid-November, the traditional flamenco carols of the city flood the streets in public or private gatherings where people sing, dance and drink the rich wines of Jerez. An experience you can’t get anywhere else, and you can experience it right up until just before Christmas.
